Cape Town - Veterinary control measures relating to the movement of horses in the Melkbosstrand area have been relaxed with immediate effect.
According to dr G. Msiza, chief director of veterinary services in the Western Cape, this decision has been taken based on investigations performed in the area.
"The normal movement requirements of horses into, within, out of and through the various African horse sickness zones in South Africa remains as normal," he said in a statement issued on Monday.
"The cooperation given by owners of affected properties within the previously restricted area is greatly appreciated and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture remains dedicated to the control of African horse sickness within South Africa."
