Johannesburg - The Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety has suspended imports of poultry, game birds and their products from South Africa "with immediate effect until further notice".
In a statement on Wednesday, the centre said the decision had been made following confirmation of outbreaks of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N2 in ostrich farms in the Western Cape.
"We are seeking further information from the relevant authority of SA. We are closely monitoring the situation," it said.
