Johannesburg - Eskom and specifically the funding of Eskom's expansion programme were discussed on Thursday at a meeting between Barbara Hogan, Minister of Public Enterprises, and Busa, the umbrella body for the organised business sector.

"It is clear that a new funding model will have to be found for Eskom. Among other things, together we want to find a suitable model," said Busa convener Professor Raymond Parsons after the meeting.

The discussions dealt with broad principles, but Busa is working with input from experts on a discussion document that will form the basis of real dialogue on state-controlled corporations and especially the country's electricity problems.

Hogan did not wish to comment on the meeting at Busa's offices in Sandton, and left before a planned joint news conference could be held. Enoch Godwana, her deputy, and Portia Molefe, the director-general of the department, also attended the Busa meeting.
