Cape Town -
Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has
called for the criminal prosecution of the former director general
of the public works department, the SABC reported on Tuesday.
This follows the irregular awarding of a R200m contract.
Senior members of the department told Scopa that Manye Moroka
awarded the contract to a company to verify the department's
assets, without following proper tender procedures.
Moroka resigned from the department last year.
Scopa member Piet Pretorius asked the Auditor-General if he was
still considering taking action 11 months after he was alerted to
the matter.
He was quoted saying action should have been taken a long time
ago.
