Johannesburg - Finance
Minister Pravin Gordhan said on Wednesday that Europe needed to
make sure there were enough resources in its bailout fund to
help debt-laden countries and ensure the crisis does not spread
to Italy and Spain.
As the eurozone is a major trading partner of South Africa,
domestic policymakers are eager for the debt crisis to be
resolved because a slump in that region will spell trouble for
Africa's largest economy.
Gordhan also told reporters on the sidelines of a conference
in Johannesburg that Europe must give better assurances that
banks will be recapitalised and the Greek debt problem will be
resolved.
