Lephalale - The December 2013 deadline for the Medupi power station in Lephalale, Limpopo, to start delivering power still stands, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Thursday.
"I have no intention of allowing any delays to the target of December 2013," Gigaba told reporters during a site visit.
"I will tolerate no delays - that is why we have brought all the stakeholders on site..."
Gigaba said all concerned parties ensured him there would be no further delays.
Construction at the site has been hampered by workers downing tools.
In January, Eskom temporarily closed the power station when contract workers went on strike.
Gigaba said it was important to ensure there was "labour stability" on the site.
Senior executives from Eskom, including the main contractors, had been assigned to be on site every week, he said.
"I will also ensure that I put up a team in my department to monitor and supervise the progress made by this project," Gigaba said.
He would regularly visit the site to inspect and to ensure everything was on track for the December 2013 deadline.
On Thursday morning, flanked by senior officials in his department and the media, Gigaba asked questions on the progress of construction at the site.
He told journalists the purpose of the visit was to "supervise and monitor" the progress made in construction at the plant.
"What you see here is the work that takes place before you get the power."
While walking, Gigaba and his team pointed out structures that were not erected on their last inspection.
Eskom CEO Brian Dames led the tour.
Dames pointed out the six different generating units, the boilers, that would generate 800MW of electricity each.
Boiler six was expected to deliver electricity to the grid at the end of 2013.
A news briefing was expected after the site inspection.
