Johannesburg - Gautrain, the multibillion-rand rapid rail commuter service, will start its full operation from June 28, said Barbara Jensen, spokesperson for the Gauteng Management Agency, which is overseeing construction of the Gautrain on behalf of the Gauteng provincial government.
Jensen said that "we are aiming to start on June 28".
This would mark an end to the R25.2bn project, which officially started in 2006.
Currently the Gautrain operates on the route linking Sandton and Oliver Tambo International Airport. Some feeder bus services are available.
If all goes according to plan, the full service will start from June 28.
Jensen said a trip from Sandton to Hatfield in Pretoria would last 28 minutes, while a ride from Johannesburg's Park Station would take 42 minutes.
