Gauteng premier to meet public on e-tolling

Johannesburg - Gauteng premier David Makhura is due to meet key players and the public on Friday to discuss the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) and e-tolls.

He planned to discuss a report by the advisory panel set up to assess the GFIP and e-tolling's socio-economic impact, Makhura's spokesperson Nino Zama said in a statement.

"Makhura earlier in January announced that... he would in February, convene a consultative meeting with all the stakeholders that made submissions to the panel, to consider all the recommendations and their full implications, including the best funding model," it said.

The meeting would take place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand at 09:00 on Friday.

E-tolling was implemented on Gauteng highways in December 2013, following several court challenges to halt the project.
