At its last summit in Germany in June, the G8 pledged $60bn in aid to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa as well as reaffirmed commitments made during the 2005 summit in Scotland to increase aid to $50bn annually by 2010.
The president commented while receiving the United States' outgoing ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, according to a statement.
"We appreciate your leadership role in the G8 and hope you will continue to ensure that members fulfill their commitments to Africa, especially since 2005," the Nigerian leader said.
