Thanks to the strong rand. Now those who are yapping about decreasing the value of the rand for some personal gains can drop on the floor.

Good that it is coming down but what about when the new Gauteng Toll road levies come in place, approx R1200 for a trip between Jhb and Pta... Pre-1994 did not decide on that zbboy. Where does our tax money go for road infrastructure.... I wonder.... nice cars, nice house, holidays, and the list goes on.....

How else do you suppose we pay parliamentarians, who work 6 months of the year,of which 4 months is spent on the golf course and the other 2 seriously resting their eyelids in parliament

Frans Jul 30 2010 15:26
@RRG: We are paying ridiculous prices because our fuel is taxed extra for the country to be able to supply fuel at lower rates compared to what we pay to neighboring countries. Exactly the same as the local electricity payer also paying more for electricity for the country to be able to supply it cheaper to neighboring countries. Don't you just love these policies from our beloved ANC government, it makes so much sense and helps with creating jobs etc.

Dropping by 10c only means next time it's raised by 20c

Every bit helps but wish all salary increases for workers could be linked to inflation rates.

@ RRG - "The price of a gallon of petrol in the USA is approx $3, converted that would equate to R4.50. per litre." 1 Gallon = 3.8 litres. 1$so buys you 3.8litres. Now $1 = R7.34. $3 = R22-02. Thus R22-02 buys you 3.8 litres of fuel in the USA - converted that means in the USA (according to your price per gallon) they actually pay R5-79 per litre. Oh - and did I forget to mention that they actually have OIL in AMerica?

Chris Jul 30 2010 14:50
So what happens to the gas price now?

R100.00 Jul 30 2010 14:44

TAXMAN, when we achieved democracy in 1994, there was a call from the unions to weaken the rand, when Thabo Mbeki became president, the call aws repeated, so now when there is another president, what do you expect. A thing to note, though, during apartheid, the price of petrol would be adjusted every 6 months or so. People complained (white people, because the media only quoted white people those days) and asked that the price be adjusted monthly. This was ignored by the white minister and the white government. Isn't it awesome that the ANC did something about it when they got into government - they listened to the people.

@Taxman Jul 30 2010 14:20
Get a life

This is a ridiculous attempt at appeasing the hard done by SA consumer, ratepayer, taxpayer. The price of a gallon of petrol in the USA is approx $3, converted that would equate to R4.50. per litre. Why is a developing nation paying so much for a necessary commodity. The refineries and the SA govt. are raking in huge profits. The unions of this country complain that the exchange rate is not in our favour. What they should be harping on is for cheaper inputs like petrol which would bring about huge economies of scale not to mention that workers would have bigger diposable income so that spending and savings can be increased.

five rand fifty Jul 30 2010 14:10
hmmmmmmmm r5.50 back in my pocket everytime i fill my tank ........... for now atleast

SMG Jul 30 2010 13:58
yay!!

TAXMAN Jul 30 2010 13:45
can you imagine when the anc weaken the rand so that they can fill their pockets with millions how much a litre of petrol will cost???we will be spending R2000 to fill up our cars each week hahahah

ngunguza Jul 30 2010 13:42
Taxi drivers please reduce ur price since the petrol is going down and our salary increase is less.

oom gert Jul 30 2010 13:33
