Johannesburg - The Energy Department told I-Net Bridge on Friday that fuel price changes for July would only be announced on July 9 as opposed to the usual last Friday of every month.

The Energy Minister took this decision during May in order to ensure that fuel prices were stable during the duration of the FIFA Soccer World Cup tournament, which ends in the country on July 11.

This means motorists still get another few days of using the same fuel prices that prevailed during June.

Petrol prices fell by 27 cents a litre (c/l) in June, while diesel and paraffin prices had fallen by 15c/l and 13c/l respectively. Another fuel cut is on the cards for July.

Data from the Central Energy Fund showed on Friday that there was an over-recovery of about 17 cents on the petrol price, 14 cents on the diesel price and an over-recovery of about 12 cents on paraffin.

The over-recovery comes on the back of weaker international oil prices and a rand/dollar exchange rate of about USD/ZAR7.7463.
