Fracking decision imminent

2012-08-22 14:36

Cape Town - An announcement on whether or not exploratory hydraulic fracturing for Karoo shale gas will be allowed could be made in a fortnight, after the next Cabinet meeting, government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said on Wednesday.

Briefing journalists in Pretoria following Cabinet's latest meeting, he said the matter of hydraulic fracturing was now before it "and receiving full attention".

Once this was completed, all interested parties, including the media, would be informed.

Pushed to put a date on this, he responded: "A more accurate picture will emerge at the next Cabinet briefing... (which) will provide a bit more detail."

      @jackie.stone.501, it is a programming IF statement, what is being said is if the corrupt politicians will make money off of this, then fracking will be allowed, if they won't be able to steal money then it will be blocked by cabinet. Too true.

    Once the money and racketeering is in place, it will be approved. These companies have a history of pay-offs.

      Shell has deep pockets and few morals. Our ministers?? Time will tell, but with Manyi as a spokesman? He was on the board of Tiger oats when they were caught "fixing the broad price" and paid a hefty fine.

    amazing how people oppose fracking but don't believe climate change data......

      What is even more amazing is that people can't see how their opulent consumer lifestyle demand energy that must come from oil, shale gas and coal. If you want to stop fracking then stop consuming. What is another shocking fact is that people believe technology is going to provide new solutions. Technology have been providing us with all the problems facing us today. How will that change exactly with newer technology! Still more crazy is that people believe renewables to be cleaner solutions. Wind and sun energy has its roots in oil. These technologies is developed and manufactured by oil and then produces a very low rate of efficiency compared to fossil fuels.

    if(ApprovesFracking(GoverningBody(ANC)){ Sabotage(OilCompany(Shell)); PreventDamageTo(Karoo); PreventGraft(ANC, Shell); } PS My 2 cents, in keeping with the pseudo-code theme!!

    After the killing of 34 miners, can there be any doubt that the Government could care less about the welfare of people over profit?

    If fracking is forced down our throats we will retaliate! The people have said no and NO its going to be.
