Johannesburg - An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in KwaZulu-Natal has been isolated, the department of agriculture said on Wednesday.
"To date, the disease is under control and a second round of vaccinations is under way," said spokesperson Rony Moremi.
"Over 93 000 cattle have been vaccinated. These animals have been identified and will be monitored."
He said an investigation had found that the disease originated from a 2006 outbreak in the northern part of the Kruger National Park.
"This revelation puts to rest speculation on the origin of the infection and also points out that the infection did not originate from any neighbouring country."
