Johannesburg - The total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 5.4% in September 2014, compared to September 2013, Statistics SA (Stats SA) said on Monday.
Stats SA said the results of the year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income were measured in nominal terms.
"The highest annual growth rate was recorded for food sales with 6.4%."
The year-on-year percentage change in food and beverages income at current prices by type of enterprise saw its highest annual growth rates in September 2014 for catering services and take-away and fast-food outlets.
Stats SA said the total income of food and beverages income at current prices for the latest three months by type of enterprise increased by 6.2% in the third quarter of 2014, compared with the third quarter in 2013.
The main contributors to this increase were take-away and fast-food outlets, and restaurants and coffee shops.
