Johannesburg - Prices at factories, mines and farms increased by 5.5% year-on-year in April from 3.7% in March, Statistics
SA (Stats SA) said on Thursday.
Stats SA said this
could be explained by increases in the annual rate of change in the Producer Price Indices for
agriculture, mining and quarrying, petroleum and coal products; chemicals
and chemical products; rubber and plastic products; basic metals
and other manufactures; and electricity.
These increases
were partially counteracted by a decrease in the annual rate of change for metal products.
Stats SA said that
from March 2010 to April 2010 the Producer Price Index for domestic output increased by 1.5%.
