Johannesburg - The Producer Price Index (PPI) -- which tracks the cost of goods leaving factories and mines -- rose in January, Statistics SA said on Thursday.
PPI for January increased to 2.7% year-on-year from 0.7
percent in December.
The Pretoria-based agency said the higher annual rate could be
explained by increases in the annual rate of change in producer
price indices for forestry, mining and quarrying, products of
petroleum and coal, and transport.
These increases were partially counteracted by decreases in the
annual rate of change for agriculture, beverages, and paper and
paper products.
