Cape Town - Eskom said on Sunday that the power system is stable, enabling it to perform maintenance at power stations without any load shedding expected.
However, it pointed out that the power system is expected to be constrained during the evening peak period between 17:00 and 21:00. This owing to the increased electricity demand in the evening and power stations’ units being on maintenance.
"There will be a constraint in the evening but there is no indication yet if there will be any load shedding," an Eskom media official told Fin24.
She explained that the maintenance taking place is part of the routine checks at power stations.
Eskom also encouraged consumers to limit their power usage.
"As we are currently experiencing cold weather conditions across the country, we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm," it said in a statement.
In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times.
On Saturday evening the power utility stopped load shedding at 21:00.
It noted that power restoration takes longer in some areas and at the same time appealed to consumers to reduce their electricity usage.
Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown announced on Thursday load shedding will continue for the next 18 months.
