Cape Town - Eskom has announced that stage 1 load shedding will take place from 17:00 on Monday, the ninth consecutive day it has cut power from the grid.
Stage 1 load shedding means that 1 000MW needs to be cut from the grid and the shortened hours means the effect of load shedding will be isolated to households scheduled to go out between 17:00 and 22:00, when the load shedding will end.
"Because of maintenance, the system will not be able to meet 1 000MW of demand, meaning that although certain areas will be without electricity for a certain period, about 96% of South Africans will still continue to receive power supply at the same time," Eskom said in a statement.
