Load shedding probability remains high, says Eskom

Cape Town - Power utility Eskom has flagged a high probability for load shedding on Friday. In an early morning tweet, it said that the load shedding prognosis "remains high" and would depend on the performance of the power plant.

Eskom stopped stage 2 load shedding at about 22:00 on Thursday evening. It cautioned that restoration of power could take longer in some areas. Weekend power cuts may also be on the cards, Eskom said: "The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable for the rest of the week, including the weekend."

This is because of a shortage of generation capacity, as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages. "Any unforeseen incident in the power system will thus trigger the implementation of load shedding at short notice," said Eskom.
