Cape Town - South Africans could be in for another bout of load shedding, Eskom has warned. The power utility tweeted that there is a medium to high probability of power cuts on Friday "as the system is constrained and vulnerable".
In a notice on its Facebook page issued just after 06:00, it said: "Eskom will communicate later today whether #load_shedding will be implemented over the weekend. We appreciate your assistance in using electricity sparingly."
Electricity was produced for the first time on Monday from the first of Medupi power station’s six units to be synchronised.

Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown said this was a step towards full power generation of 794 megawatts and therefore brings South Africa a step closer to alleviating some of the energy challenges the country faces.
"This will contribute significantly to South Africa’s and the region’s economy in the long run,” said Brown.
“We recognise that this is only the beginning, but I am confident that achieving this significant milestone will sustain the dedication and commitment of the Eskom team as they work towards the completion of the project."
