Sandton – Eskom’s generation deficiency has opened up a unique opportunity for other African countries to develop generation capacity to sell to South Africa, delegates at the Africa Energy Indaba heard at the Sandton Convention Centre on Wednesday.
“A new environment has been created by being in a generation deficient state,” said Gary Whalley, MD of Babcock’s transmission business.
“It has given rise to a potential for countries to have generation excess,” he said during a session on creating a smart grid of interconnected power systems throughout Africa.
