Johannesburg - Energy regulator Nersa has granted power utility Eskom a 24.8% fee increase for this year.
Nersa has also approved a 25.8% increase for next year and 25.9% in 2012. The increases will be implemented in April every year.
This results in an average standard price of 41.57c per
kWh this year, 52.3c per kWh in 2011 and 65.85c per kWh in 2012.
According to Nersa chairperson Cecilia Khuzwayo, the inflationary effect of the increases "will be less than 1.5%" per year.
Khuzwayo said the hikes will increase Eskom's revenue by R85bn in the power utility's new financial year, an additional R109bn in 2012 and R141bn in 2013.
Eskom initially requested a 45% annual increase for the next three years. The proposal was reduced to 35%.
Last year, Eskom increased its tariffs by 31%.
