Eskom's tariff submission had not been received by the National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) by late Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson who declined to be named said "nothing" had arrived.

Earlier Nersa said it had denied Eskom's request for an extension of the deadline for its tariff submission.

It added that Wednesday was definitely the deadline for the submission.

"Eskom did request an extension but it was not granted," the regulator confirmed.

Eskom's spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said earlier that the submission had been completed and complied with the filing regulations of Nersa.

He also confirmed that the document would be sent to the regulator on Wednesday.

"I can't say exactly when... it's a matter of pressing the send button," he added.

Etzinger said the tariff submission would also be sent to the National Treasury as well as to the SA Local Government Association (Salga).

Asked what Nersa could do if it did not receive Eskom's submission shortly, it replied that it would deal with the situation in line with section 18 of the Electricity Regulation Act.

"If it is alleged that a licensee has contravened or failed to comply with a licence condition or any provision of this Act, the Regulator may sit as a tribunal to decide on the allegation," Nersa said.
