Stellenbosch - The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch celebrated its 90th birthday on April 18.
According to Prof Stan du Plessis, dean of the faculty, many generations of economists, statisticians, industrial psychologists, transport economists and investment managers, as well as leaders in the public and private sector, obtained their degrees from this faculty.
In 1924 there faculty has only 15 students compared to the 7 000 in 2015.
"One of the biggest challenges is to make the faculty more accessible for students and staff from all communities," said Du Plessis.
In order to help top students from previously disadvantaged communities, the faculty plans to launch a special project later this year. Other means of making the faculty more accessible would be to increase the language options and the introduction of programme innovation.
