Cape Town - The proposed tariffs for e-tolling have been published in the Government Gazette.
The public has 30 days to make written submissions to the transport department before Transport Minister Dipuo Peters gives the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) the go ahead to charge motorists for using highways. See contact details below.
"We encourage the public to participate in this process to ensure that their views are taken on board," spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said in a statement on Wednesday.
The tariffs, which include value-added tax (VAT), are differentiated according to four categories of motor vehicle. They are:
Please note: Fin24 noted that number 26 and 27 were missing in all the tables. A spokesperson at the department of transport referred Fin24 to Sanral about "errors". Sanral's spokesperson Vusi Mona was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
Also, the department of transport's website has been down since Wednesday.
According to the document road users can also qualify for five types of discounts.
Three types of discounts will be applied if payment for an e-toll transaction is made within the grace period (i.e. seven days from the date and time that an a -toll transaction occurs) and two after the grace period.
The Gazette also states that adjustments to the tariffs and amounts can still be made.
"The increase will be determined by the minister and will not exceed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the preceeding 12 months."
The transport laws and related matters amendment bill was signed into law on September 21 by President Jacob Zuma.

- Motor cycles (A1)
- Light motor vehicles (A2)
- Small heavy motor vehicles (B)
- Large heavy motor vehicles (C)
