THE widespread call for the government to sell its underperforming assets to the private sector shows that South Africans have become captives to private wealth, which too has its shortcomings.
And the government seems to also believe that the private sector has the capacity to do the job of turning around these assets successfully. This is too sad for words.
Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene last week confirmed that the sale of the state’s non-core assets is almost finalised.
