Court halts massive Pikitup strike

Johannesburg - A labour court interdict halted a planned full-blown strike by Pikitup workers on Monday, The New Age reported.

"The planned strike, which has been planned for Monday, has been cancelled after receiving legal papers preventing the action," said SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) spokesperson Tahir Sema.

"We will be re-engaging with our workers on the way forward."

The workers were served with an interdict on Friday.

Pikitup workers started a go-slow about a month ago to protest against new measures introduced by the company, including the signing of a work attendance register, the suspension of working half days on pay day and of using company resources to travel to and from work.
