Johannesburg - Cosatu's support for nationalisation and land reform were welcomed by the ANCYL on Thursday.
"The Congress of SA Trade Union's maturity in approaching the question of State ownership and control should be celebrated...," said African National Congress Youth League spokesperson Floyd Shivambu.
Their support helped to dispel "the urban myth spread by greedy corporates that the state is inherently incapable of doing big business successfully," Shivambu said in a statement.
The ANCYL was responding to the outcomes of Cosatu's central committee meeting.
Like the league, it supports expropriating private land and wants section 25 of the Constitution, the property clause, scrapped. Section 25 allows for government's acquisition of land for redistribution, with compensation.
"The ANCYL's scientific, political and ideological conviction is that land should be expropriated without compensation because any other model will not succeed to redress the injustices of the past," Shivambu said.
