Cosatu to protest against e-tolling

Johannesburg - Cosatu will stage a drive-slow protest against e-tolling in Gauteng on Monday.

The motorcade would leave the Congress of SA Trade Union's head offices in Braamfontein at 9am and proceed to the M1 north.

It would take the N1 north towards the Olifantsfontein off-ramp, turning back onto the N1 south towards the Diepkloof interchange, then onto the N12 east.

It would follow the M1 north to the Smit Street off-ramp before returning to Cosatu house.

Cosatu held a similar protest in Ekurhuleni last month.

The Johannesburg metro police (JMPD) would monitor the protest and cars which stop on the freeway will be towed to the JMPD impound lot.

In May, the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court dismissed an application by Cosatu to protest on the city's highways after it was denied permission by the JMPD.

Authorisation had not been granted because during a previous protest protesters had stopped and walked along freeways in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.
