Johannesburg - Cosatu in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday appealed to all parties involved in the municipal workers' strike to come up with an amicable solution to the dispute.
"All the stakeholders must act in a manner that will assist both the workers and employers in reaching an solution to the quagmire facing the municipalities and the workers," provincial secretary Zet Luzipo said in a statement.
The union federation appealed to both workers and employers not to intimidate anyone taking part, or not taking part, in the strike. It called on law enforcement agencies to remain impartial in policing the dispute between workers and the employer, the SA Local Government Association (Salga).
The SA Municipal Workers' Union began striking on Monday for an 18% pay rise. Salga was offering 6.08 percent.
