Johannesburg - Trade union federation Cosatu has attacked the National Treasury in the proposed declaration of its fifth central committee meeting.
On Thursday, the final day of the meeting, the Cosatu
declaration - which still has to be voted on and adopted by the meeting - said
the National Treasury would have to fundamentally change the country's fiscal
and monetary policies.
"A new direction is needed to meet the challenge of an
economy which is not working," the declaration said.
"The new growth path and IPAP2 (industrial policy action pPlan) contain many excellent proposals for the restructuring of the economy and creating jobs, but will be sabotaged unless there is also a fundamental change in the Treasury's fiscal and monetary policies to provide the environment and finance for a developing, industrial, manufacturing economy."
