Cape Town - Tributes have been pouring in on Friday from the business sector and trade unions to mark the passing of former president Nelson Mandela.
Here is what they said:
- The National Union of Mineworkers: "As an honorary president of the NUM, he has been an inspiration through and through.";
- SA National Parks: "May we all be reminded of the sacrifices that Madiba made in shaping the future of our country.";
- Continental Outdoor Media: "What a tragic outcome might have befallen us in South Africa had we not enjoyed Madiba's grace and his calm hand on the tiller as we navigated the turbulent waters of transition.";
- National Youth Development Agency: "Tata Mandela touched millions of lives through his good and honourable deeds.";
- Barclays: "We can take comfort knowing that our own grief is shared by hundreds of millions of people across the world who have been touched by his extraordinary gentleness, statesmanship and humility.";
- SA Democratic Teachers' Union: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tata Madiba, our father and hero.";
- Transnet: "Our nation has been blessed with an individual of such rare stature.";
- Chamber of Mines: "He raised the stature of South Africa... as a secure destination for hope, growth, and investment, especially in the mining sector.";
- Business Leadership SA: "We at BLSA share the grief over the loss of one of the country's greatest leaders who played a crucial role in unifying our country, leading the transition to democracy, and laying the foundations for economic growth."; and
- Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative: "It is difficult to talk about Nelson Mandela without sounding cliched, because so much has been said about this wonderful man that in some ways we have run out of words."
