Johannesburg - Numsa's first vice-president Andrew Chirwa was elected as its president at a special national congress in Boksburg, on the East Rand, on Tuesday.
Chirwa was the only person nominated for the post.
A new National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) president had to be elected following the resignation last month of Cedric Gina.
Second vice-president Christine Olivier was unanimously nominated as first vice-president.
Her position as second vice-president will be filled by Numsa KwaZulu-Natal regional chairperson Basil Cele, who was also unopposed.
