Johannesburg - The SA Communist Party called on government to pass legislation that would criminalise food price fixing, the SABC reported on Sunday.

"We are really disappointed that government does not want to criminalise these big companies who are fixing these prices," said SACP's general-secretary Blade Nzimande.

He was addressing a rally in Tembisa on the East Rand in commemoration of the 15th anniversary to the death of Chris Hani.

Nzimande said cabinet should pass legislation that would allow for whoever inflate prices to be brought to book.
