Johannesburg - Business executive Nicholas Darius Maweni has been appointed the new managing director of the Black Management Forum.

"Maweni was the most senior South African black executive in the leadership team of IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) Africa," BMF spokesperson Nomcebo Ngema said in a statement on Tuesday.

"He has over 14 years of corporate experience."

His appointment is effective immediately.

Maweni served as the group marketing director of Crossroads Distribution, a logistics, transport, and supply chain company in Africa.

He was also the executive head of corporate affairs at Virgin Mobile since its launch in South Africa.

Prior to that, Maweni worked at various companies in the ICT sector, including Vodacom and Marconi.

"We are pleased to have Mr Nicholas Maweni as our managing director as he brings... a wealth of local and global experience," said the board's deputy president, Tembakazi Mnyaka.

"His strategic marketing expertise will be a great asset for the BMF in achieving our vision."
