Another party joins DA's e-tolls fight

Johannesburg - Two political parties plan to take legal action against e-tolling in Gauteng, the parties announced on Wednesday.

The Freedom Front Plus said it would launch a court application to have the e-toll act declared unconstitutional.

The party said the application would be launched together with TAU-SA for farmers, the National Taxpayers Association and the SA Federation for Caravans and Camping Club.

"The application will be brought in the North Gauteng High Court," said FFPlus spokesperson Anton Alberts.

More details would be announced on Thursday, he said.

The Democratic Alliance also announced earlier it would challenge the legislation introducing e-tolling in Gauteng.

"This could have far-reaching consequences for its roll-out in the province," the party said in a statement.

Details of the legal action would be announced by the party's national spokesperson Mmusi Maimane on Thursday.

In October, the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed an Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance appeal against the implementation of e-tolls by the SA National Roads Agency Limited.
