Amcu was invited to lekgotla - chamber

Johannesburg - Organisers of a three-day mining lekgotla in Johannesburg denied on Tuesday that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction (Amcu) had been excluded.

"Amcu has been invited," said Chamber of Mines CEO Bheki Sibiya.

"When we read in the media that they said they were not invited, we wrote them another letter inviting them."

He hoped Amcu would attend as there was a section in the programme which Amcu would address.

"We still have tomorrow [Wednesday] and a day after tomorrow [Thursday]," he said.

Amcu is the majority union in the platinum mines and the second largest in the gold mines.

Sibiya was responding to a question from delegates on why Amcu was not mentioned.
