Alliance got nearly R62m from Numsa - report

Johannesburg - Tripartite alliance partners - Cosatu, the ANC and the SACP - received nearly R62m from the trade union Numsa, the Sunday Independent reported.

National Union of Metalworkers of SA general secretary Karl Cloete said: "We've done a calculation of Numsa's financial support for the MDM (mass democratic movement) structures, SACP and ANC since 2003 to 2013 and it is a gigantic R61 970 500."

The newspaper reported that the Congress of SA Trade Unions had received R54m in that period.

The African National Congress had received R4m and the SA Communist Party received more than R1.8m.

R1.7m was also given to Cosatu's political fund.

Numsa, which is Cosatu's largest affiliate, last year resolved at its special congress not to support the ANC in the 7 May 2014 general elections.
