AfDB approves $150m Zambia loan

Tunis - The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $150m loan to Zambia to finance a new energy project and pay for improvements at the Maamba coal mine in the south of the country.

The loan has been provided for Zambia to improve electricity production by building a 300 megawatt coal-fired power plant in the Maamba area and to tackle the mine's problem with spontaneous combustion of tons of unused low-grade coal, the Tunis-based bank said on Monday.
