Johannesburg - The planned roll-out of the Administrative
Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) Act will not take place on April
1, transport department spokesperson Logan Maistry said on Wednesday.
Maistry said no official date for the national roll-out of
Aarto had been announced as yet.
"In due course, the Road Traffic Management Corporation
(RTMC) Shareholders' Committee will pronounce on this matter," he said.
The announcement was made after a meeting of the shareholders
of the RTMC made up of the national transport minister, the nine provincial
MECs and two representatives of the SA Local Government Association (Salga).
A subsequent meeting of the shareholders of the RTMC would
be held to consider the major problems confronting the implementation of Aarto.
These would include the high percentage of drivers without legal licences, the incorrect home addresses on the eNatis system and the imperative of ensuring that municipal traffic law enforcement capacity was not reduced by Aarto's implementation.
