Johannesburg - The Automobile Association of SA joined other bodies on Monday in welcoming the decision by the transport minister to halt tolling of roads pending further talks.
"The AA has been at the forefront of the tolls debate... and would definitely like to be part of the consultative process and contribute to an equitable solution," AA spokesman Gary Ronald said in a statement.
Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has instructed the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) to put on hold all processes for the tolling system.
The decision was welcomed by the SA Municipal Workers' Union, Freedom Front Plus and Afriforum on Monday.
The Western Cape transport department said would support the minister's decision if consideration was given to investing in public transport.
