Cape Town - The department of energy has announced another petrol price drop, which will be welcomed by motorists.
All grades of petrol will decrease by 22 cents a litre (c/l) and diesel will drop by between 24-25 c/l from Wednesday.
Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 13 c/l and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 27 cents/kilogram.
"The average international product prices of petrol and diesel decreased whilst illuminating paraffin slightly increased during the period under review."
The department said that the rand strengthened when compared to the previous period.
"The average rand/US exchange rate for the period 02 May 2014 to 29 May 2014 was R10.4042/$ compared to R10.5576/$ during the previous period."
The Automobile Association said moderating international petroleum prices and a stable exchange rate was responsible for the price drop.
"We are hopeful that this favourable picture will continue to offset the steep rises in the fuel price seen earlier this year,” it said in a statement.
Last month was the first time since the year started that a petrol price decrease was announced. It dropped by 15.0 c/l in Gauteng.
At the same time, diesel came down by 29.78 c/l, illuminating paraffin by 25.0 c/l and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 4.0 cents/kilogram.
The price of 95-octane petrol increased in total by 82 c/l in Gauteng and 78 c/l at the coast since the year started.
