People should learn to own up and face reality and their
financial situation.
There is a tendency to ignore letters, phone calls, change bank accounts and addresses. This won’t make the credit go away but adds to problems.
I dealt with my debt by calling everyone that I owed, and requested reduction on payments until such time I am able to pay the initial instalment. I also check my bank statement if all debits are going through at the right date and I have closed all retail accounts.
I am left with one that I am currently paying off.
I now put goods on lay-by and pay over three months if it's clothing, and if it’s furniture over six months or one year depending on what the agreement is.
I never went for debt counselling; I did it on my own.
