Johannesburg - Chief communications officer of telecommunications group Vodacom, Dot Field, announced her resignation on Tuesday.
Field has been with Vodacom for 15 years.
Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys said Field made an enormous contribution to the success of Vodacom.
"Dot is well known for her excellent relationships with the media, is widely respected as a consummate communications professional and known as the voice and face of Vodacom, he said.
"We have accepted her resignation in recognition of her need to pursue her own business interests."
Field said she felt it was time for a break and new career challenges.
"I joined Vodacom a few months before we started commercial operations in 1994," she said.
"It has been an exhilarating ride, but also very demanding. I have decided to take some time out to consider a number of options and wish Vodacom every success in the future."
Vodacom has not yet announced a replacement for Field.
