Johannesburg - The Competition Tribunal on Wednesday approved a joint venture between food groups Unilever and Robertsons to create one of South Africa's largest food groups, but conditions would apply.
The Tribunal agreed to the joint venture on the condition that both companies would sell a number of brands and sub-brands.
Robertsons is wholly owned by Hunt Leuchars & Hepburn Holdings Ltd.
The joint venture needs to clear approval by the South African Reserve Bank and HLH shareholders.
The combined groups will have an estimated turnover of R3.2 billion a year.
"The ruling given today by the Competition Tribunal represents another major step in the restructure of our joint venture covering South Africa, Israel and the southern African region," the two companies said in a statement.
