Cape Town - The French network in South Africa and Lesotho will celebrate French cuisine with So Chef! from October 9 to 22 2016.
It will take place as part of National Nutrition Week. The South African Department of Basic Education is partnering with the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) to give SA learners a taste of French cuisine.
The four top chefs hail from Alsace, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Reunion Island respectively. They will travel to South Africa and Lesotho to take part in culinary experiences and create gastronomic masterpieces in seven cities, namely Cape Town, Durban, East London, Johannesburg, Maseru, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria.
The varied programme includes workshops organised in schools and universities, workshops in the Alliance Française network and partnering cooking schools and four-handed gastronomic dinners (two chefs joining to prepare one menu) in restaurants.
Chef Daniel Grondin of the Reunion Island region will be in Johannesburg from October 9 to 13; in East London from October 14 to 15 and in Durban from October 17 to 22.
Chefs Marie Wucher and Cyril Bonnard from the Alsace region will be in Maseru from October 11 to 15; in Pretoria from October 17 to 20; and in Port Elizabeth from October 21 to 22.
Chef Serge Demoullière from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region will be in Cape Town from October 17 to 21.
