UK airspace re-opened

London - Airspace over London was re-opened a short while ago.

Air traffic control said the computer system had been restored on Friday and the process was returning to normal.

European air traffic control body Eurocontrol said earlier on Friday that the airspace had been closed due to a computer failure.

NATS, Britain's national air traffic service, said it had suffered a technical problem at its air traffic control centre in Swanwick, southern England.

London's main Heathrow airport said at the time that no flights had taken off or were landing, but at Gatwick flights were arriving but not taking off.
