Sello Mmakau to take up post as Acsa CIO

Johannesburg - Sello Mmakau was appointed chief information officer (CIO) of the Airports Company SA (Acsa) on Wednesday, the company said.

"Mmakau's new role is an important one, which will ensure that the information technology strategy is ideally aligned to sustainably support the growing organisation," Acsa CEO Bongani Maseko said in a statement.

"His position plugs into Airports Company SA's plans to conclude the filling of positions at executive level during the current financial year."

The CIO position was a newly created role for the company, following its leadership realignment earlier this year.

Mmakau previously held the position of CIO at the department of home affairs for six years. During that time, he was "instrumental in improving the department's back-end systems performance, enabling it to better deliver on its mandate to the public and enhance its reputation", spokesperson Unathi Batyashe-Fillis said in a statement.

"He was also involved in collaborating with the banking industry to develop automated online fingerprint verification and implemented the new South African Smart ID card," she said.

Mmakau, who has a BA degree, a Master of Business Leadership degree and several IT-related qualifications, has worked at the department of health, the State Information Technology Agency, and at Sasol.
