SAA back in talks with Satawu

Johannesburg - Wage talks between SA Airways and the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) resumed on Wednesday morning.

"Negotiations began at 09:00, and they are still locked in talks," Satawu spokesperson Vincent Masoga said.

"There is no resolution yet."

SAA technical staff began striking on Monday, demanding a double-digit wage increase of 12%.

The airline offered 6.5%, with spokesperson Tlali Tlali saying it was based on what the company could afford.

Tuesday's negotiations were halted after no agreement could be reached.

Tlali said contingency plans had proven effective, with only one delayed flight.

He said SAA had 31 flight departures out of OR Tambo International Airport between 06:00 and noon on Tuesday, of which one was delayed for 17 minutes as a result of the strike.

Tlali could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
