Cape Town - The cabinet has approved a new marketing slogan for Brand South Africa.
The new slogan, which will be used to champion South Africa locally and abroad, is South Africa: Inspiring new ways.
This was announced by Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane on Thursday.
November 2011 tourism arrival statistics showed an increase of 9.9% in German tourists to South Africa.
Germany is South Africa's third-biggest overseas tourism market and contributes 9% of tourist spend to the gross domestic product.
Minister of Tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk said from January to November 2011, arrivals in South Africa from Germany numbered 211 000.
"Statistics also show that a total of 40% of German tourists to South Africa are repeat visitors. This is very high and it testifies to the attractiveness of our destinations."
He was speaking at the ITB Travel Trade Show this week in Berlin.
SAA expands Portuguese service
Meanwhile, South African Airways (SAA) has expanded its code share arrangements with TAP Portugal.
This means that existing services between South Africa and Portugal will be increased.
From March 7 SAA customers will benefit from new connecting code share services beyond Lisbon to other Portuguese destinations within the TAP domestic network, including Porto, Faro and Funchal in Madeira. TAP customers will benefit from SAA connecting flights from Johannesburg.
Both TAP and SAA are members of the Star Alliance, the largest collection of airline partners in the world today.
The code share has also been expanded to include Accra in Ghana. TAP will operate the Lisbon–Accra route with SAA as the code share partner, while SAA will operate the Accra–Johannesburg route with TAP Portugal as the code share partner.
"Our customers can look forward to an even wider range of travel services and destinations," said Marc Cavaliere, head of global sales development and alliances at SAA.
"It will allow alternative, improved and expanded connectivity between each airline's networks, with significant benefits to be offered to passengers on both airlines."
